Starting a New Feed Your Soul Chapter in Your Area

Find a location and a need. Use intelligent evaluation to find out where we can best help. Remember Feed Your Soul's mission is to get people back on track.
FYS awards for the following:

Feeding Programs Fund (should be at least once per week at the same time).

Rental Deposits/Motel Vouchers Fund (HOTS Fund).

Transportation Fund (purchase of monthly public transportation passes).

Disaster Relief Fund (for individual disasters like Hurricane Katrina).

Life Skills Fund (fund to help people get the required job skills and back on track) .

Use local resources to find out where you can help. Salvation Army, Soup Kitchens, Shelters, and Homeless Access Centers usually have Social Workers that can quickly get you up to speed where you can safely help out.

Setting up your Chapter
The following steps are guidelines of what is required in most cases to open your chapter and to make it legal in your area to use FYS 501c3 or non-profit status.

Registering a foreign non-profit in your state
Research on your State government website will be required to find out what kind of paperwork needs to be filed in your state on a annual basis. California is already registered.

Opening a Bank Account
Your bank may require one of or all of the following:

• FYS's Articles of Incorporation (may need to be notarized)
• Proof FYS is in Good Standing (bank will usually do this for you)
• Letter from FYS approving individuals to open a bank account under FYS. Call your bank ahead of time to find out what your financial institution requires.

Required Reporting
The following five items are required to be sent to FYS's headquarters in California on the first of every month:

• Copies of all donation checks (will be used for mailing receipts)
• Copies of all receipts
• Copies of all cancelled checks
• Copies of bank statements
• QuickBooks or Excel Spreadsheet outlining expenses

We prefer QuickBooks Non-Profit edition to be used, and we can send you a copy of the software if needed.

A standard form receipt will be forwarded to you. Donations made by check will have receipts mailed by our accounting firm. We prefer the above to be scanned and emailed to us.
