"Help Off The Street" This fund secures rental deposits and emergency motel vouchers for people that have been deemed ready for rehabilitation or lack the funds to secure a place to live. In two years over 75 individuals and families have been assisted.

2007 H.O.T.S. Fund Stories

Sandra:

Sandra is a 59 year old woman who has a disabled 19 year old daughter that suffers from Cystic Fibrosis.  Sandra has been homeless since 10/19/06.  She and her daughter were living in Los Angeles.  Sandra’s landlord raised the rent above what her Section 8 housing subsidy was willing to pay.  The landlord attempted to have Sandra pay the difference under the table.  Sandra could not afford to pay the difference and was told that she would have to leave.  Sandra has been surviving by staying in shelters and with various friends since.

Sandra has now found someone that is willing to rent to her.  Her Section 8 voucher is going to expire on 2/03/07, so this would be Sandra’s last opportunity at securing affordable permanent housing.  Sandra is in need of $1000 to move in to her place, though any assistance provided would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
